Chronicles of more festival events!

Some of the poets who read at the 2012 Poetry & Cookies anthology reading on Saturday afternoon, April 21st, inside the Altadena Senior Center. This event was considered part of the 2012 San Gabriel Valley Poetry Festival.

Teens who read in the 2012 San Gabriel Valley Poetry (Festival) Youth Slam, AKA Poetry In Motion: A Teen Event, on Friday afternoon, April 20th, inside the Arcadia Public Library.

Festival Kickoff Reading/Drawing

$50 in cash, $50 in Vromans Bookstore cash cards, copies of the latest Poetry magazine, and festival tee shirts were given away to those who read a poem of their own creation on Saturday, April 7th between 3 and 5pm inside the backroom of the Santa Catalina Branch of the Pasadena Public Library on 999 E. Washington Blvd.

Broadside Contest

Michael Gonzalez won $50 in cash and $50 in publishing (50 broadsides) having entered a poem of no more than 212 words. All entrants who attended (see left column for pics) were given the opportunity to read their entered poem between 3 and 5pm on Saturday, April 14th inside the backroom of the Santa Catalina Branch of the Pasdena Public Library on 999 E. Washington Blvd.

Chapbook Competition

Robert Wilson won $100 in cash and $100 in publishing (50 chapbooks) having produced a chapbook of 10 poems totalling no more than 2012 words. The winner was announced at 2:10pm on Saturday, April 21st inside the Altadena Senior Center on 560 E. Mariposa St. as part of the Poetry & Cookies anthology publishing event hosted by Pauline Dutton. All entrants present received a copy of the winning chapbook, and may have their own chapbook printed as well for half price.

Poetry Slam

Carlyn Blount won 1st prize (a $25 Best Buy Cash Card) and the remaining competitors split $80 in cash by performing one of their poems (of no more than 5 minutes in length) on Saturday, April 28th between 3 and 5pm in the backroom of the Santa Catalina Branch of the Pasadena Public Library on 999 E. Washington Blvd. Each participant was also offered a 2012 SGVPF tee shirt for their trouble.
